Peter Pan Syndrome

Marc & Kim think that I'm just like Peter Pan and that my wife enables me by being just like Wendy. At first I was creeped out by the suggestion because Michael Jackson is always described as a Peter Pan-like figure. I don't have a Neverland Ranch and I'm certainly not interested in the same things as Jackson.

I guess what Marc & Kim were trying to say is that I may have some "won't grow up" qualities about me. For example, I'm not shy to admit that I liked watching parades when I was a kid and I still like watching them as an adult.

When I Googled the term "Peter Pan Syndrome," I found a book with that title and a follow up called "The Wendy Dilemma." If they weren't out of print, somebody could give them to me for Christmas. Maybe I can use my McKay's trade to get a used copy.

Most people immediately think of the Disney version of "Peter Pan." I have nothing against the Disney version but it's not the one I knew growing up. My parents would play the cast album from Jerome Robbins' Broadway musical version of Peter Pan for my sisters and me. When my son was little, his favorite ride at Disneyland was "Peter Pan's Flight."

Here's what I'm trying to figure out. If I'm Peter Pan and my wife is Wendy, who are my Captain Hook and Tinkerbell?

Frank - As I write this, half.com has over 75 copies of "The Wendy Dilemma" for as low as $4.24 including shipping.  That's right, it's only $0.75 per book with $3.49 for shipping.

My argument against you and your wife being Peter Pan and Wendy hits especially when responsibility is discussed.  Peter Pan would never have been as frugal as you are.  I picture Peter Pan living beyond his means and going through bankruptcy several times (which goes along with the idea that he is beyond society's laws and norms).
