Kayla

I survived my first week in Knoxville! Coming from Detroit, Michigan, there will be plenty of adjusting and learning. It’s safe to say I did figure out a few things my first week in town.

1. Orange is a must for your wardrobe!

Though orange is not my color, I will have to love it at some point, right? Don’t get me wrong, I care about football, well to an extent. Back in Michigan there are only two things people care about Go Michigan or Go State. And Beat Ohio!

2. I must visit the Smoky Mountains

I’m a proud Michigander,a lake girl. I’ve always been surrounded by some sort of nature, scenic view. I’m all about recreational activities, like biking, hiking, kayaking, and whatever outdoorsy thing you can imagine. So, I’m BEYOND thrilled about being close to the Smokies.

3. Downtown Knox is my new favorite place to be. It’s beautiful

Great energy, cool bars, pop-up events, need I say more.

4. The weather is perfect here!

It snowed my first week in town BUT it was nothing compared to the mountains of snow back in Michigan. I’ll take the weather changes in Knoxville any day!

5. Everything is real life a 15 minutes’ drive away.

I’m not the world’s best driver but when it’s close, I have zero issues driving around like I own the roads. “Oh, you need to go to the gym ‘it’s 10 minutes way’. The mall? “See you in 15!”

6. I need to buddy up with someone and learn the “Southern Slang”

I didn’t know I had an accent until I made my way to Knoxville. Midwestern accents are very detectable here. That being said, I need to learn the majestic lingo and slang of Knoxville.

Feel free to Tweet me at @Star1021 with more transition tips and tricks.
