According to the incident report, Dustin Murphy, 28 intentionally rammed a police cruiser before taking off on Brakebill Road. A lengthy pursuit ensued and reached speeds over 100 MPH, driving through yards and going several times into oncoming traffic.

The driver ran a deputy’s cruiser off the road at Chapman Highway at Maryville Pike, sending him into a KUB utility pole. The deputy was taken to UT Medical Center for surgery on his foot/ankle on Sunday. He is expected to make a full recovery.

The suspect is now in custody and multiple charges are forthcoming.

Non-profit foundation Blue Line Tennessee which assists officers and their families is currently raising money for Knox County Deputy Coble (Charity GoFundMe).

“We are raising money for Knox County Deputy Coble. On Saturday March 7th Deputy Coble was hit head on by a fleeing suspect, causing the Deputy’s vehicle to leave the roadway striking a utility pole. The utility pole did fall on Deputy Coble’s vehicle. He was transported to U.T. Medical Center where he has already had one surgery and is expected to have several more. Please keep Deputy Coble and his Family in your prayers. As it looks like he will be out of work for at least six months,” says the charity page statement.
