Caffeinated shoes are a go! XpreSole, by CCILU Footwear made a shoe line from used coffee grounds.

Environmental + Energy Leader reports that these shoes are completely wearable. The Cody sneaker is their first product from the line of sustainable shoes. It’s uniquely made from spent coffee grounds or SCG and even has the smell of coffee.

One pair of each Cody sneaker is made from five cups of coffee.

CCILU laid out four main objectives for the new manufacturing method in their XpreSole Technology Plan:

1. Minimize SCG landfill
2. Minimize Methane (CH4) and Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emissions
3. Minimize petroleum consumption
4. Minimize carbon footprint

This company wants to decrease the use of petroleum-based materials by 30% in the footwear industry. The best part, their initiative is not only about the shoes. The coffee grounds are also used for products like deodorant, bio-fuel, and mushroom cultivation.
