UK retailer Lidl gathered data on wine buyers and found they will spend a third more on impressing guests than when just shopping for themselves. In addition, 44% will spend more on guests at Christmas. The research also showed that 23% of people find purchasing wine stressful. Almost half, or 46%, say they don’t know how to identify a good bottle of wine from a bad one and a third are “simply bewildered by wine jargon.”
Does wine shopping stress you out? I can see where this could be stressful, but I say just do YOU. If you are providing or gifting wine, that is definitely enough. No one needs you to break the bank for them, and if they do… I don’t think that’s a friend you need.
