We all have those days where we just are not mentally there, yet we force ourselves to power through until we hit a breaking point. I can still vividly remember some painful days in high school when I wish I could have just stayed home for my mental health, but that wasn’t a thing. In the past few years we’ve begun to normalize the need for mental health days for adults, so why shouldn’t we recognize that teens and even younger kids may need them too? Yes, some will take advantage. No, they shouldn’t be allowed to take one to avoid a test. But helping our kids realize how important their mental health is at a young age will help them later in life.
