The FDA and Walmart have issued a recall on apple juice sold in 25 states, including Tennessee.

Almost 10,000 cases are being recalled on the Great Value brand due to high levels of arsenic found in the juice. It was sold in 8-oz 6-pack bottles.

The apple juice has a “best if used by date” of December 28, 2024.

The FDA classified this recall as a “Type II” which means,

…use of, or exposure to, a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.

It’s not uncommon for arsenic to be found in foods because of the environment and where they’re grown and processed. However, the FDA has limits on how much arsenic is allowed, that wouldn’t be harmful to people. The apple juice, in this case, exceeded the amount allowed (13.2 parts per billion vs. 10 parts per billion).

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), arsenic is a naturally recurring element of the earth, hence it’s impossible to avoid, but it can be limited in our food and water supply, and cosmetics.

Here’s a guide on how you can limit yourself to arsenic exposure.\
