Hugging your loved one(s) is common practice at an airport, but one airport is putting a limit on how long your hugs can last.
Dunedin Airport in New Zealand has installed signs outside of their airport that say “Max hug time 3 minutes” and for those who want a “fonder farewell” need to do so in the car park.
The airport implemented the new rule to keep traffic flowing and improve safety. But not everyone is happy with this quick-goodbye rule. The airport’s CEO said in a radio interview that its caused a “stir” (via ABC News).
…there’s only so much space we have in that drop-off area. Too many people are spending too much time with their fonder farewells in the drop-off zone, there’s no space left for others.
The CEO ensured that if someone does embrace over the 3-minute-max they wouldn’t be calling the “hug police.”
